About this place
The strict protection zone is just under six thousand hectares of forest untouched by forestry for centuries. Dead trees stay where they fell, and it is precisely these that keep thousands of species of fungi and insects alive.
Entry is possible only with a licensed guide, in groups of up to twenty. The route runs about seven kilometres, along boardwalks.
Bison are rarely seen inside the strict reserve. A safer bet is the Bison Show Reserve on the road to Hajnówka.
Good to know
- Entering the strict reserve requires booking a guide in advance.
- Mosquitoes are fierce from May to August — repellent is mandatory.
- Wildlife cannot be guaranteed; this is a forest, not a zoo.
