About this place
Śnieżka stands at 1,603 metres and has a microclimate of its own — the wind tops 100 km/h on several dozen days a year, and the weather can turn in fifteen minutes. The ascent from Karpacz takes three hours, the descent two.
On the summit stands a meteorological observatory made of three disc-shaped volumes — one of the most recognisable buildings in the Polish mountains. Inside there is a snack bar.
The Czech border runs across the summit. The chapel of Saint Lawrence on the Polish side is open in season.
Good to know
- Summit weather can be nothing like the valley — a windproof jacket is essential.
- The final stretch along the Jubilee Road is steep and exposed.
- In winter the route requires crampons and experience — it is sometimes closed.
