Poland has hundreds of castles, but only some can sensibly be seen in two days — without overnight drives or queuing for tickets.
How to read this list
The order is not a ranking — it is a route. We grouped the castles by region so no drive between stops exceeds an hour. For each we give the real visiting time, not the one from the leaflet.
We assume leaving on Friday after work and returning Sunday evening. On that basis, three — at most four — castles fit into one weekend.
Pomerania: Malbork and Gniew
Malbork is the compulsory stop — the largest Gothic fortress in Europe and a UNESCO site. The basic route takes 2.5 hours, the full one up to four.
Forty kilometres on lies Gniew — smaller, far less besieged by visitors, and with live historical re-enactments at weekends.
What it really costs
Tickets to three castles come to about 200 zloty per person. Castle car parks charge 10 to 25 zloty a day.
Where to stay
In season, book a week ahead. Off-season you can usually find a room on the day.
